BIRTHDAYS.

BIRTHDAYS. What do you tell yourself each year? Do you reflect on the past year? Your life's course? Your accomplishments? Your challenges? Your failures? Your aging?

Birthdays seem to be a time of reflection. Of self-gathering over the past year and analyzing the nuances of experiences, conversations, changes, or failures. This year, I wrote to myself and called her in true Bridgerton style (Shondaland.com) "Dearest" as a moniker to be kinder to herself as she ages.

Why, you ask? Because we all need to believe that with age comes wisdom.

May 24th is the day I celebrate HER every year. I celebrate her inside and out. While I never want to focus on the outside, I celebrate every new wrinkle, the drooping eyes, the blotching skin, and the overall appearance of aging. What the world sees in her is the outside, so we embrace it, not necessarily liking it but claiming who we are and who made us (God).

Psalm 139 says, "I am beautifully and wonderfully made in His image."

For those who chose to know the inside person, I pray you to believe you are the lucky ones—learning the IT that makes her HER. Is it her extroverted ness, love for adventure, learning of new things, trying new things, meeting new people, or her leadership abilities? Do they see someone who was called to lead, educate, teach, and share experiences? Do they know she tells stories to be relative? Do they know she over-communicates so others will gain knowledge? Are they willing to understand, embrace, and love her nuances and insecurities?

She is not perfect. She is flawed. But she is learning to love herself so she can love others. She wants to make new friends and have deep conversations. She desires to lead and not be bossy. She loves deeply and hurts the same. She seeks knowledge to learn. She learns to impart that knowledge to others. She loves to be loved. She prays to be prayed for.

She is HER, and I celebrate her because she is me. Get to know HER this year, and I promise she will get to know you.
