Tell the truth!
When you saw the word BEAUTY did you think you would see a picture of snow covered trees or orange traffic cones?
You were expecting maybe a beautiful sunset or sunrise? A beautiful person to grace this page? Maybe the distance of snow capped mountains or sand on the beach? A sleeping baby, a child in contemplation, or an active game of sports? A famous athlete or celebrity? A flower up close or a bird in flight?
Imagery is a powerful storyteller.
For me, on a cold wintery drive to work in Wisconsin I stopped in the Starbucks line for my daily dose of deliciousness (yes, coffee) and it was here I discovered my "word of the year." I decided to take the Facebook challenge, but for weeks I couldn't think of a word to chose from that would get me through a whole year. It was sitting in this drive-thru line and looking at the construction site that I discovered my word -- BEAUTY.
It was the ice fog on the trees in contrast to the orange cones that made me decide I needed to look for beauty in everything, not neglecting even the mundane moments in life. Much like leadership, it needs to be intentional, seen, thought out, and identified within you.
“Leadership is like beauty: it's hard to define, but you know it when you see it.” -Warren Bennis.
Have you identified the beauty of leadership inside of you? Have you provided imagery through actions and words that says you have?
I challenge you today to find a "word" that will sustain you this year, but also provoke thought about the leadership ability within you. Find your "beauty" and share it with the world through every day mundane actions and words. Be the BEAUTY someone else needs to see in a leader and they will surely follow.
What She Said ~ Beverly
Well this snow-starved southerner definitely saw the snow, and it is beautiful! l love your choice of the word beauty. Not exactly what I would associate with leadership but I see how important that would be as a motivator. Helping people see the beauty of who they are and what they can be apart of! Great stuff!
