FEAR. Not the most positive start to any sentence.
FEAR of the unknown.
FEAR of new things.
FEAR of others.
FEAR of self.
Have you ever felt these fears? I certainly have. If anything this past year, while going through the pandemic, has taught me is that fear of the unknown can make me fearful of others and even myself.
How do I overcome those fear? Being a woman of faith, this is where I pray. Being a woman of strength, this is where I practice what I preach. Being a woman of experience, this is were I know God is in control of all things...including my fears.
It doesn't mean I don't experience them, feel them, and worry about them. What it means for me is that I can have...FAITH OVER FEAR.
Recently, I had this conversation with a colleague about starting a new job. It took courage to consider leaving a comfortable, known position to try something new. It wasn't without fear that she stepped out in faith, but she did and started her new position a month ago with success.
George Addair stated, "*Everything you ever wanted is on the other side of fear."
In a great article entitled, "7 fears you need to overcome to be an effective leader," Lolly Daskall addresses those fears. I'm only going to provide you the headers of each paragraph (plus a personal expression) simply because I want you to read the whole article at (https://www.lollydaskal.com/leadership/7-fears-need-overcome-effective-leader).
1) The fear of being seen as an imposter (love the quote by Mark Twain).
2) The fear of being criticized (*being on the other side of fear; different author).
3) The fear of being a failure (biggest regret is the chances we didn't take).
4) The fear of not being a good communicator (takes intentionality).
5) The fear of making hard decisions (hmm...paralysis of analysis).
6) The fear of not taking responsibility (your leadership is the cause/effect).
7) The fear of not getting it done (results vs. actions).
What I have figured out about fear is that it will always be with us.
What I know about leadership skill development is that the more we learn the less fearful we become.
What I believe is that faith over fear is something to be claimed and practiced daily.
